CONTENTMENT, THE PATH TO ELEVATION
1 Timothy 6:1-10
1 Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed.
2 And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort.
3 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;
4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,
5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.
7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
1. You cannot love God and love money (one must come first)
a. 1 Timothy 6:10 – coveting money causes us to err from the faith and brings us sorrows and misery
i. (learn to serve without money else you cannot handle money)
Elisha asked Gehazi his servant, Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and oliveyards, and vineyards, and sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and maidservants? (2 Kings 5:26) he suffered Naaman’s leprosy
16 Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child, and thy princes eat in the morning!
Stop worrying; in due season God will surprise you
b. Matthew 6:33 – when you put God first, He brings everything else you need
Any time i have placed money first instead of you, please forgive me
Fix my heart; let me always place your first.
c. Matthew 6:21 – where your treasure is, there will your heart be also
So set your heart on Heavenly riches; which means that set your hear on the things of God, and money will chase after you in due season
Use money but Love God
19 A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but money answereth all things.
- If you love God, you will use your money to do Godly things.
- Financial blessings is not for increasing girlfriends and wives;
- Neither is it for alcohol
3 Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.
4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:
13 And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.
