GMOS 105 – SERVICE

GLOW MUSIC MINISTRY

SERVICE

Introduction:

From the beginning of creation, God had a reason for creating man and that purpose is to love and serve him, therefore as Christians, one of the vital aspect of our fulfilling destiny includes serving God genuinely.

Every child of God or minister of God is first of all a servant of the most high God.

Ephesians 2:10

For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Christian service is the act of doing work for showing GOD’s love to others with a willing heart. It could be sharing gospel, or helping other people.

In addition, to believing in Him with all your heart, soul, and mind; you need to serve Him in the same spirit as well.

Service gives us a great deal of fulfillment that gives meaning to our life.

Service is a command from God but must be done with gladness

Serving should never feel like a chore as followers of Christ.

Psalm 100:2 says Serve the LORD with gladness; Come before Him with joyful singing.

Psalm 2:11

Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

Matthew 20:27

And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant.

Unrewarded Service

True service has no expectations. It does not consider the benefits that might come as a result. True service seeks to honor God by loving completely and honestly, without anticipation of reward.

Your service to God is exemplified by your actions in your family, community, and place of work. Serving God shouldn’t be done for recognition or praise; it shouldn’t be self-seeking – not because you want something from him in return. Serve selflessly, seek his kingdom and every other thing shall be added unto you.

The purest gift is unacknowledged service. It proves that our hearts are humble and that we are volunteering for the right reasons.

What really pleases God is a life of love, service, and praise; we are called to a life of kindness and total submission to God.

JESUS THE CHIEF SERVANT

John 13: 13 – 15

“You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. 14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. 15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.

Walking in sandals on the filthy roads of Israel in the first century made it imperative that feet be washed before a communal meal, especially since people reclined at a low table and feet were very much in evidence. When Jesus rose from the table and began to wash the feet of the disciples (John 13:4), He was doing the work of the lowliest of servants.

Ways through which we can serve God through serving others

  1. Volunteer in Your Church or music ministry – Be thoughtful in order to identify ways in which you can help and speak to your leaders about it.
  2. Serve God Through Your Family – By cleaning, loving, supporting, listening to, teaching, and endlessly giving of ourselves to the members of our family.
  3. Home and Visiting Teaching – We can also make it a point to visit members of our choir or church that are not well or have been away for a while to share some awesome time of fellowship with them.
  4. Serve God by Serving Children – So many children and teenagers need our love and advice to live the godly way in order to achieve their purpose in life and we can give it!
  5. Fulfill Your Calling – Everyone has been born with the purpose and it comes with unique gifts and talents so we must identify these unique gifts and serve God with them.
