HOW TO OVERCOME GREED 2

OPENING SCRIPTURES
Psa 37:7  Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way,
because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

Isa 40:31  But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles;
they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Heb 6:12  That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

GREED: intense and selfish desire for something, especially wealth, power, or food:

Greed is a destructive force that can lead to sin, dissatisfaction, and separation from God. The Bible provides powerful KJV scriptures to help believers overcome greed and cultivate contentment and generosity. Here are key verses to meditate on:

HOW TO OVERCOME GREED

RECAP:

1. Be Content

True contentment comes from trusting God’s provision and focusing on eternal treasures.

2. Seek God, Not Wealth

Mat 6:19  Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
Mat 6:20  But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
Mat 6:21  For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

7. Be Studious and Generous

Act 20:32  And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified. Act 20:33  I have coveted no man’s silver, or gold, or apparel. Act 20:34  Yea, ye yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me. Act 20:35  I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

3. Trust God’s Provision

  • Philippians 4:19
    “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

Trusting God’s provision eliminates the need to hoard or covet.

4.Passionately Give Towards God*

Mat 6:33  But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Mat 19:27  Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore?
Mat 19:28  And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Mat 19:29  And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.
Mat 19:30  But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.

Php 4:15  Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only.
Php 4:16  For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity.
Php 4:17  Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account.
Php 4:18  But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God.
Php 4:19  But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

5. Cultivate a Generous Heart

2Co 9:6  But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.
2Co 9:7  Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

  • Generosity reflects a heart that trusts God and overcomes greed.
  1. Be Rich Towards God

Mat 6:24  No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Luk 12:20  But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?
Luk 12:21  So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

  1. Be Rich in Good Works*

1Ti 6:17  Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;
1Ti 6:18  That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;
1Ti 6:19  Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

ALTAR CALL
Rom 8:1  There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

PRAYER
Dear Holy Spirit, quicken me to walk in the spirit
So that i do not fall pray to greed
Let me be a Living Sacrifice unto you
Grant me the grace to patiently wait for You
And The Grace to resist the spirit of greed
To be rich towards You Lord
And to be rich in Good works
That You fulfill Your purpose in my life
In Jesus Name
Amen
