Be Lowly in Mind as a Music Servant

Be Lowly in Mind as a Music Servant

Luke 18:9-14
9. And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:
10. Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
11. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
12. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
13. And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
14. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

To be lowly in mind means to think less of yourself than you ought to either absolutely or in relation to others.

You can see from the scripture above that the Pharisee boasted in his religious acts and it can be easily inferred that he thought of himself justified by these works; but Jesus’ correction indicates that the sinner was more justified by his approach to God.

How often do we by our speech or by our actions show that we are better than others because of our righteous acts or certain abilities that we have?
How often have we thought of ourselves better than other musicians, vocalists or other ministers in our minds or hearts?

Let us learn from Paul;

1 Peter 5:5b
5. for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

To rise and impact in ministry, we need to be lowly in mind and recognize the grace of God in all things.

Prayer
Thank You Lord for this revelation. Please help me to constantly have a lowly mind so that I can experience your grace.

I see Grace Overflowing in your life

Amen
